When the pump is running, the keyway is under a lot of pressure. Due to the gap between the key and the groove, the keyway is subject to a large impact force when the pump starts, stops, and runs unstable. Due to the poor working conditions on both sides of the keyway, the main failure mode of the pump shaft is local fracture at the keyway.
