1, piglet edema disease
The disease is caused by toxins produced by E. coli in the small intestine. The incidence of sudden death of weaned piglets after weaning is approximately 10-35%.
(1) symptoms:
The common symptom is that after 10 days of weaning, one or several pigs died suddenly. Most of the dying pigs were asymptomatic before death. These pigs were often well-developed pigs. The sick pigs who did not suddenly die died, and they evolved into swaddles and limbs. After the onset of symptoms, most of the affected animals died within 24 hours. In some cases, edema of the subcutaneous tissue in the eyelids and forehead is indicated, and most of the affected body temperature is normal.
(2) Diagnosis:
The diagnosis of oedema disease is mainly the sudden death of a well-developed pig after one to two weeks of weaning. The necropsy is helpful for diagnosis. The characteristic lesions were gastric submucosa and mesenteric edema. Sometimes edema is also found in the lungs, brain and body cavity.
(3) Preventive treatment:
Management of milking pigs must reduce irritation. When weaning, avoid feeding piglets too much solid food right away. The food intake of pigs was limited and then gradually increased to normal levels in two to three weeks. The use of bacterins made from pathogenic strains of E. coli to inoculate pregnant sows and non-pathogenic E. coli vaccines to give orally to newborn piglets has reported good results.
