The first China Hybrid Rice Conference jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Hunan Provincial Government was held today in Changsha, Hunan. More than 40 experts and scholars in the field of hybrid rice exchanged views on the theme of “Accelerating Science and Technology Innovation in Hybrid Rice, Promoting Sustainable Development of Industry, and Protecting National Food Security”. Academicians Yuan Longping, Zhang Qifa, Xie Hua'an and other experts made keynote speeches on topics such as super hybrid rice breeding and hybrid rice industrialization.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, the awarding ceremony for the sixth Yuan Longping Agricultural Science and Technology Award was also held to honor technology or management experts who made outstanding contributions to the research or promotion of hybrid rice, especially super hybrid rice.
