Recently, a three-year "Craniofacial Regeneration Program" was launched at the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. As the first action of the program, more than 100 surgeons from China received specialist training from the Australian Craniofacial Surgery Center. The program will also support children with difficult surgery for surgical treatment of craniofacial surgery.
According to statistics, only 100,000 children are born each year in congenital head and face deformities nationwide. There are more than 20 kinds of craniofacial malformations, and the incidence rate ranges from 1‰ to 1/100,000. The only treatment for this type of malformation is surgical plastic surgery. However, the risk of surgery is extremely high. There are only two or three clinical centers in China that operate craniofacial surgery, and there are only 10 senior experts. Children who suffer from craniofacial deformity and fail to receive plastic surgery are not only difficult to carry out normal social interactions, mental health is seriously affected, and there are still many cases that are difficult to eat, pronounce or listen to. Many children are early before puberty. Reluctantly left the world. In addition, depending on the condition, the cost of craniofacial plastic surgery varies from 50,000 to 100,000 yuan, so many rural families are unbearable.
In view of the fact that craniofacial surgery technology has not been widely promoted in China, the three-year “Craniofacial Regeneration Plan†will be hosted by senior craniofacial surgeons from China and Australia, based on the Ninth People’s Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In China, we have trained and established a number of craniofacial surgery centers that can carry out high-quality surgery on their own to jointly promote the development of craniofacial deformity and treatment technology.
It is reported that since 1975, with the help of Professor David, the leader of the Australian Craniofacial Surgery Center, the Australian Craniofacial Surgery Center has carried out a large number of physician training, treatment of poverty and difficult patients in the Asia-Pacific region, and Professor David and The Ninth People's Hospital, where the Chinese Academy of Engineering academician Zhang Disheng is located, has a history of more than 20 years of cooperation and exchange. At present, the plastic surgery of the Ninth Hospital has completed more than 1,000 cases of craniofacial surgery, with a success rate of 95.7%, ranking first in international craniofacial surgery.
