Feeding chickens, saving materials

In open-range chicken farming, improper feeding practices can lead to significant feed waste. To minimize this issue, farmers should implement several effective strategies during the feeding process. First, it's important to choose suitable feeders or buckets and control the amount of feed given at each feeding. Free-range chickens often crowd around feeders, which can cause them to knock over the containers, leading to wasted feed. Therefore, feeders should be securely placed at a height that matches the chickens’ back level. Increasing the number of feeders ensures that all birds have access without competition. Avoid overfilling—only fill up to one-third of the container’s capacity. This allows the chickens to eat for about 40 minutes before the next feeding. Aim for four feedings per day, with early morning and late evening feedings in summer to avoid high temperatures during midday. Second, optimizing feed formulation can significantly reduce costs. Use locally available and cost-effective ingredients while maintaining nutritional standards. For example, substitute some fishmeal with glutinous rice cake, or use sesame cake, peanut meal, or vegetable meal instead of certain legumes. This not only lowers expenses but also supports sustainable farming practices. Third, regularly cull non-performing birds. This includes removing sick, weak, injured, or low-producing hens, as well as excess roosters. These individuals consume feed without contributing to productivity, so their removal helps conserve resources. Fourth, proper storage of feed and raw materials is essential. Store them in dry, well-ventilated areas to prevent mold growth. Purchase raw materials in small quantities based on daily needs to reduce storage time. Additionally, protect feed from pests such as rodents and birds to prevent unnecessary loss. Maintaining an optimal ambient temperature is also crucial. A comfortable environment promotes better health and improves feed conversion rates, reducing overall feed consumption. Finally, manage pests effectively. Regularly remove insects from the poultry area, as they can damage feed and contribute to waste. Implementing these measures ensures more efficient and sustainable chicken farming.

Rib Plate

Rib Locking Plate System is suitable for the fixation of rib fractures, which includes rib locking plate, rib locking screw and rib plate.

Ribs are structures throughout the thoracic cavity that protect vital organs such as the lungs, heart, and liver. The human body has 12 symmetrical pairs of ribs.

Where did the fracture occur?

Rib fractures are more common in adults. Fractures of one or more ribs may occur, and multiple fractures of the same rib may occur. The first to third ribs are shorter, protected by the scapula, clavicle, and upper arm, and are generally less prone to injury, while the floating ribs are more elastic and less prone to fracture. Fractures usually occur in four to seven ribs.

What is the cause of the fracture?

1. Direct violence. Fractures occur where violence directly affects them. They are usually cross-sectional or comminuted. Fracture fragments are often displaced inward and easily penetrate into the lungs, causing pneumothorax and hemothorax.

2. Indirect violence, chest is squeezed back and forth, fractures often occur near the axillary midline. The end of the fracture protruded outwards, which easily punctured the skin and caused open fractures, such as collapse or improper exertion during external cardiac massage. There have also been cases of posterior rib fractures due to violent blows to the anterior chest, or anterior rib fractures due to blows to the posterior chest. Most of the fractures were oblique.

3. Mix violence and others.

What type does fracture have?

1. Simple fracture

2. Incomplete fracture: mostly crack or green branch fracture

3. Complete fracture: most of them are transverse, oblique or comminuted

4. Multiple fractures: one bone and two fractures, multiple rib fractures

5. Open fracture: mostly caused by indirect violence or firearm injury

What are the complications of sternal fracture?

1. Abnormal breathing 2. Pneumothorax 3. Hemothorax
