Japan Uses Solar Energy to Prevent and Control Liriomyza huidobrensis

After invading Japan's Osaka in 1993, Liomyyza trifolii quickly spread to various types of vegetables and flowers, resulting in reduced yield and quality. Since there are very few registered pesticides for soft vegetables such as garland chrysanthemum, osaka cabbage, and small leeks, it is very difficult to control chlorosis in India. After the mature larvae of the African Liriomyza huidoides drilled leaves, they sneaked into the topsoil and became the source of insects that harmed the next crop. Using this behavior, researchers from the Osaka Prefecture Agriculture and Forestry Technology Center conducted experiments using solar thermal energy to destroy insects. In summer, while the greenhouse is closed, the surface is covered with a layer of polyvinyl chloride. The study found that the maximum surface temperature in sunny afternoons can reach 55°C and can be maintained for a long time. Most of the African larvae are larvae within 1 cm below the surface. Studies have shown that, at 48°C, the cockroaches there have almost completely died after less than 30 minutes, and the damage degree of Liriomyza huidobrensis on post-season greenhouse vegetables is greatly reduced. In the Osaka area, if it covers the mulch in a greenhouse, the period of time at a temperature above 48 °C at 1 cm below the surface is from April to October. The first method of prevention and control in Osaka is referred to as "a layer of film and a sunny day." The key points are: 1 Wait for the sunny day immediately after the harvest of the vegetables; 2 Close the greenhouse; 3 Press the soil around the film. This technology was first promoted to Osaka's vegetable production base in the prefecture market. During the above period, vegetable farmers had achieved good control and prevention of the disease. At present, this technology has been promoted in Japan.
