Germany finds a new virus in cows

Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, November 22nd: The Friedrich-Leifler Institute for Animal Health in Germany announced on the 21st that some researchers in the United States have been experiencing symptoms of "discomfort" in dairy cows in some cattle farms in western Germany. A new virus was detected in blood samples of sick cattle.

Cows in some cattle farms in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, have recently suffered from fevers and drastic reductions in milk production. The researchers therefore tested 100 blood samples from sick cattle supplied by 14 local cattle companies and found a new virus in 9 samples from 4 companies. According to the source of the blood sample, the researchers temporarily named the virus "Schmalenberg virus."

According to reports, the new virus belongs to the genus of the genus Yaja virus. This type of virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and is common in Oceania, Africa and other places, and can cause premature or difficult labor in infected animals.

However, researchers are still unable to conclude that the newly discovered "Schmarenbacher virus" is the "culprit" of German cow disease, and whether this virus has long been introduced into Europe is yet to be further studied.
