High-frequency ultrasound can detect early atherosclerosis

Release date: 2007-06-27

High-frequency ultrasound can detect early atherosclerosis. A study completed by the Department of Ultrasound Diagnosis, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University, proved that high-frequency ultrasound can accurately evaluate early atherosclerosis. High frequency ultrasound as a non-invasive, accurate, convenient and reproducible vascular detection technology will play an important role in clinical applications. In order to investigate the diagnostic indicators of early atherosclerosis (AS) by using high-frequency vascular ultrasound detection technology, the researchers randomly divided 17 New Zealand white rabbits into two groups: 5 normal feeding for the control group and 12 high-fat diet feeding system. Into the AS model group. The abdominal aortic diameter, peak flow velocity, posterior intima-media thickness (IMT), and brachial artery endothelium-dependent diastolic function (EDD) were measured by ultrasound at the beginning of the experiment and at 1, 4, 8 and 17 weeks of feeding. The results showed that EDD decreased first in the AS model group after the first week of high-fat diet. As the feeding time prolonged, the EDD continued to increase and continued throughout the lesion. After 4 weeks, the peak flow rate increased (P<0.05); after 8 weeks, IMT was significantly thicker than the control group (P<0.05); after 17 weeks, the abdominal aorta diameter of the AS model group was slightly widened, but compared with the control group. There was no significant difference (P>0.05). There was no significant change in EDD, abdominal aortic diameter, peak flow velocity and IMT (P>0.05). The results confirmed that high-frequency ultrasound detection of IMT, peak flow rate and EDD can accurately evaluate early AS vascular structural and functional abnormalities, providing a basis for clinical application.
