More than 100 ** nationwide adopt minimally invasive surgery to treat liver cancer

The reporter learned from the China Strategic Alliance for Minimally Invasive Treatment Technology Innovation on the 20th that at present, more than 100 hospitals in China have undergone minimally invasive surgery such as radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, argon helium cryoablation, and chemical ablation to treat liver cancer. The survival rate has increased from the original 20% to about 50%.

Liver cancer is a malignant tumor that seriously threatens human health and life. The incidence rate ranks fifth in the global malignancy. According to reports, about 370,000 new cases of liver cancer patients develop in China every year, and they grow at a rate of 5% per year. Clinical practice has proved that 80% of liver cancer patients have reached the middle and late stage when they are diagnosed and have lost the possibility of routine surgical treatment.

According to Zheng Jiasheng, director of the China Cancer Minimally Invasive Treatment Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, about 80% of patients with liver cancer receive minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery for liver cancer has the characteristics of accurate positioning, less surgical trauma, lighter patient pain, rapid tumor ablation, less side effects, and faster postoperative recovery, which improves the surgical indications and patient-free survival.

Zheng Jiasheng said that clinicians can use different minimally invasive surgical procedures according to the different characteristics of patients with liver cancer, and ultimately achieve the purpose of patient-free survival and prolong survival. China's use of minimally invasive surgery to treat large tumors of hepatocellular carcinoma above 5cm has reached the international advanced level. In the past, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma whose liver tumors invaded veins and developed portal vein tumor emboli were unable to undergo surgical resection. For these liver cancer patients, radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and combined arterial embolization were used to achieve significant results. This achievement has reached the international advanced level.

According to Zheng Jiasheng, in the past four years, Beijing You’an Hospital has provided minimally invasive treatment to 378 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma below 5 cm, with a one-year survival rate of 100% and a three-year survival rate of 79%. Hepatoma patients with hepatic tumors of more than 5 cm have 365 cases and have the largest tumor ablation. With a diameter of 16cm, the one-year survival rate was 97.5%, and the three-year survival rate reached 72%.

It is understood that there are more than 1,000 doctors in the country who have mastered all kinds of minimally invasive treatment of liver cancer technology and have performed more than 12,000 operations per year. The China Strategic Alliance for Minimally Invasive Treatment Technology for Cancer will further promote minimally invasive treatment of liver cancer technology throughout the country.
