We finally did it! Last week we completed the move and are slowly settling into our new place. The main living areas and bedrooms are coming together, but we're still adjusting to our new surroundings. There are days when I walk around searching for something as simple as vitamins, forgetting they’re now stashed in a different cabinet. Baby steps, right?

If you missed the initial post about this rental and the "before" pictures, you can catch up here.

Here’s a glimpse of move-in day:

Move-in Day

As you can see, we already have a growing pile of items ready to donate or sell. Turns out, there's a neighborhood garage sale happening next weekend, so we'll be clearing out a lot of those pieces. Decluttering before a move is always a good idea, but somehow there’s always more stuff to sort through once you're unpacking. In fact, we’re hosting two garage sales within a month—something I never thought I'd do. But hey, every little bit helps!

We had planned everything out on paper beforehand, which really simplified the moving process. All our utilities were scheduled to start on move-in day, including morning appointments for internet, satellite TV, and an alarm system. Since we're only a few miles away, it worked out perfectly. The movers could unload one load, then someone would stay behind to unpack while others went back for more deliveries. By the end of the day, there was always progress being made.

One thing I learned early on is that you need to prioritize your bedroom. Setting up the kids' beds right away made a huge difference because, by the end of the day, everyone had somewhere comfortable to rest. After accomplishing that, we focused on the kitchen. Unpacking with a group of friends made it surprisingly enjoyable, even though I swore I wouldn’t touch another coffee mug for weeks after!

This is a rental property, so we’re keeping things simple. No major renovations here—just as many renter-friendly updates as possible. The biggest project so far has been painting, updating outlets, and installing new trim in the main living spaces. We managed to complete all that before bringing in the bulk of our belongings.

Just last night, I found myself wandering around the house, trying to figure out where I put the charger for my phone. (Turns out it’s in the kitchen drawer!) Moving is definitely a learning curve, but it’s also a chance to create something new and meaningful. If you’ve ever hosted a garage sale or had a particularly memorable move, I’d love to hear your story. Let’s keep the conversation going!
