(1) Inadequate drive belts: Small four-wheel tractors typically come with three V-belts, but some models may only use one or two of them. When the tractor is in operation, the increased load causes the drive belts to slip significantly. This not only reduces transmission efficiency but also lowers the output power. Moreover, excessive heat generated from slippage can lead to belt delamination, deformation, and accelerated wear. Therefore, it's important to avoid overloading the tractor using only a limited number of belts.
(2) Neglecting the cleaning of the cooling system: The water tank on the tractor is usually open at the top, making it prone to collecting dust when parked or in use. Sometimes, dirty or hard water is used, leading to sediment buildup over time. As dust and impurities accumulate, they can clog the cooling passages, which affects engine cooling. This results in higher temperatures, thinning of the lubricating oil, and reduced lubrication performance. Consequently, internal components wear faster, parts may expand, and the tractor’s performance and power decline. In severe cases, this can lead to serious issues like burned cylinder heads, seized shafts, or stuck pistons.
(3) Unauthorized modifications: Some drivers make random changes to the tractor without understanding the consequences, which can damage the original mechanical properties. For example, increasing the diameter of the driving pulley to boost speed can have several negative effects. First, changing the gear ratio increases clutch speed and creates more impact loads when the engine speed fluctuates, leading to higher torsional vibrations that shorten the life of clutch components. Second, an increased contact area between the belt and pulley raises the risk of belt breakage and quicker wear. Third, as speed increases, traction decreases, creating dangers during transport and climbing. Additionally, the increased load raises the engine temperature, causing oil to thin and making it harder to form a proper oil film, which accelerates wear on the crankshaft and other moving parts. Lastly, modifying the tractor can reduce its maneuverability and stability, potentially causing early wear on braking components due to ineffective braking.
(4) Severe overloading: Some operators frequently overload the tractor during transport, which puts excessive strain on the engine, transmission, and running parts. This leads to higher temperatures, thinner lubricating oil, and reduced lubrication effectiveness. In emergency situations, the tractor may not stop within a safe distance, increasing the risk of accidents. Overloading also causes higher fuel consumption, black smoke from the exhaust, and carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, which accelerates piston and cylinder wear.
(5) Improper towing and starting: Some tractors are started by pulling them with another vehicle. However, due to the high viscosity of the oil in the transmission and oil pan, this method increases resistance. When the clutch is engaged, the gears are subjected to sudden impacts, which can cause gear failure due to fatigue. This practice is especially dangerous in cold weather and should be strictly avoided.
