Human life is not up to the limit

With the socio-economic situation and the continuous advancement of medical technology, human life has been prolonged. In 2016, the British "Nature" magazine published a paper that the French woman Jeanna Calman, who passed away at the age of 122 in 1997, reached the limit of human life. However, does human life really reach its limit? The latest study published in the journal Science in the United States gives the answer "no." Researchers believe that after the age of 105, the risk of death per year tends to be stable.

In 1825, British actuary Benjamin Gombez pointed out that the risk of death increased exponentially with age. For example, a 70-year-old person is at a higher risk of death than a 30-year-old. However, since then, more and more studies have found that the so-called "Gumpings mortality law" lacks sufficient support.

In a new study published in the journal Science, Kenneth Watts, a professor of demography at the University of California, Berkeley, and his team involved more than 3,800 elderly people over the age of 105 in the Italian population data from 2009 to 2015. Start research. The results show that mortality has decreased slightly over time. Those born later are slightly longer than those born earlier. Overall, before the age of 80, the risk of death did increase exponentially with age, after which the risk began to slow down and reached a relatively stable level after 105 years of age. In other words, for 105-year-olds, 110-year-olds, and 112-year-olds, the risk of death is the same. This result shows that human life has not reached its limit at all and may continue to prolong as time goes by.

Watts pointed out that after the age of 105, physical health has entered a "high-life stable state", which may be closely related to genetics and "fragile choices" (the various life factors that lead to physical weakness).

Currently, researchers have collected information on age and death risk associations in 15 European countries, which may provide stronger evidence for the above conclusions. â–² (Xu Jiang compiled)
