During the cold season, low temperatures—especially at night—are among the most significant threats to greenhouse crop production. These low temperatures are the primary cause of cold damage and frost injury, which can severely impact the growth and development of vegetables. To ensure safe production and achieve high yields, it's essential to enhance the cold resistance and antifreeze capacity of crops, maintain optimal internal temperatures, and manage the day-night temperature difference effectively. Here are some key strategies:
First, constructing a well-insulated greenhouse is crucial. The structure should include an insulating layer, a cold-proof trench, brick-constructed composite walls, internal support with external pressure, and a design that maximizes light transmission for rapid warming and long-term insulation.
Second, improving the plants' natural resilience is important. This can be done by selecting cold-resistant varieties, subjecting seeds to low-temperature acclimation during germination, and using products like "Tianda 2116" through irrigation, spraying, or foliar application to boost their ability to withstand cold.
Third, using raised beds can significantly improve soil temperature. By increasing the surface area exposed to sunlight, the soil absorbs more heat, warms faster, and retains warmth longer, creating a better growing environment for crops.
Fourth, full coverage mulching helps retain moisture and increase soil temperature, which is especially beneficial in winter.
