Pinggu calligraphy and painting circle "evergreen" Mr. Xing Fengyu created "Hainan style"

In the Pinggu painting circle, Xing Fengyu, now 73, is known as an evergreen tree in the painting circle. He is good at painting figures, attacking landscapes, flowers and birds, and creating Pinggu Landscape School. Recently, Xing Fengyu spent more than three years and created more than one hundred "Hainan style" paintings and calligraphy, which was first assembled by the Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House.

Xing Fengyu was born in a small mountain village in the northwest of Pinggu and liked painting since childhood. In the late 1960s, he returned to his hometown from the army, first taught at a mountain village in the eastern part of Pinggu, and then went to the county cultural center to work as a guide for art creation until he retire. In the more than 30 years of working in the cultural center, he and his colleagues have made Pinggu's fine art creation flourish and cultivated batches of talents in calligraphy and painting. As early as 1978, he also held the first personal painting and calligraphy exhibition in Pinggu. Speaking of the circumstances at the time, Xing Fengyu still vividly remembered that the works he exhibited were mainly based on the production and life in rural areas, and more expressed the gratifying scenes of the farmers' harvesting, that is, the peach blossoms and natural landscapes in his hometown, but the creation techniques are relatively simple.

Today, Xing Fengyu, a white-haired, silver-haired beard who has worked in the land of calligraphy and painting for more than half a century, is constantly pursuing artistic innovation. In 2007, he set up his own painting and calligraphy creation base in Wuzhishan, Hainan. He spent half a year or so each year to inquire into creations throughout Hainan. He went to the rain forest several times to paint and lived and ate in the Miao village of Li village. Although the language exchange was not smooth, he established deep feelings with the local Miao villagers. The works collected and published this time are the fine works created in the past few years.

Prior to this, Xing Fengyu lived in the north for a long time and was skilled in painting mountains and rocks. “Chinese paintings are mainly represented by lines, but in addition to trees and bamboo, Hainan has covered vegetation with mountains and rocks, and all kinds of methods used by the ancients do not apply.” He explained that he had deliberately created a method of painting vegetation. In particular, it is possible to express the intricately winding vines of the rainforest without being messy. In addition, Hainan's local rice buffalo, coconut plantain, Miao village daily life, all entered his paintings.

“Mr. Xing is the leading figure in the Pinggu painting and calligraphy industry. He devoted himself to painting for decades. He has invested all his feelings in his paintings.” Han Weiquan, secretary-general of the Pingya District Literary Federation, said with emotion that Xing Fengyu tirelessly explored art. When he lived in Pinggu for a long time, he felt that there was no breakthrough and he went to Hainan to create. The scenery there was completely different from the north, and it could bring new artistic touches. It is reported that this year, the Propaganda Department of Pinggu District Party Committee will prepare personal painting exhibitions for Xing Fengyu in Beijing and Hainan to showcase his masterpieces.
