Pruning timing plays a crucial role in the growth and fruiting of grapefruit trees. In my orchard, more than 96% of the pruning is done in mid-December according to the Gregorian calendar, while only 4% of the grapefruit trees are pruned in mid-January.
In the mid-December pruning group, spring shoots began to open on February 7th, with just 0.1% of buds opening, and about 60% of new shoots were visible by March 15th. By March 26th, 80% of the flowers had opened, and all new shoots were fully developed. On April 1st, all flowers were open, and the total flowering period lasted 18 days.
For the mid-January pruning group, new shoots started to appear on February 18th, with some bud tips and young flower buds developing by March 11th. On March 26th, 80% of the new leaves were open, but only 10% of the buds had begun to open. By April 7th, 100% of the flowers were open, and over 96% of the new leaves had emerged. The total flowering period for this group was 12 days.
From the comparison above, it’s clear that:
A) Grapefruit trees pruned in mid-December showed a higher fruit set rate from the beginning to the end of the flowering period.
B) Grapefruit trees pruned in mid-January had a shorter flowering period and lower fruit set rates.
Regarding the Baohuabaoguo variety, in both Garden A and Park B, we left half of the branches for observation, keeping only useful ones to protect the fruit. The results showed that trees pruned in mid-December had a higher fruit set rate compared to those pruned in mid-January.
The pruning time for grapefruit harvested before the "frost fall" period typically occurs between late November and mid-December. For grapefruit harvested after the "early winter," pruning is usually done in late December. Grapefruit harvested around the "winter solstice" grows more slowly, and the tree's vigor recovers within a week after harvest. This timing helps ensure better tree health and future fruit production.
Disposable Endo Fascia Closure System
Disposable minimally invasive fascial closure device is a medical device used to close the abdominal fascia layer after laparoscopic surgery. The device consists of a needle and suture that can be inserted through a small incision in the skin and used to close the layers of fascia without the need for a larger incision. The device is designed to reduce the risk of complications associated with traditional methods of fascial closure, such as wound infection, hernia and dehiscence. The single-use nature of the device also reduces the risk of cross-contamination and infection. Use of the device could shorten recovery time and improve outcomes for patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.
