Peach rot disease is primarily caused by factors such as freezing injury, improper management, and excessive fertilization. Additionally, prolonged autumn rains can delay the dormancy of peach trees, reducing their cold resistance. To effectively prevent this disease, the following measures are recommended:
First, focus on strengthening tree health to build natural resistance.
(1) Implement reasonable fruit bearing: Adjust the amount of fruit based on the tree's fertility and fertilization level to avoid overloading.
(2) Improve soil nutrition: Increase the use of organic, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrient fertilizers while managing nitrogen levels carefully.
(3) Protect leaves and promote root development: Timely control of pests and diseases that cause early leaf drop helps maintain tree vigor.
Second, pay attention to tree protection.
(1) Prevent freezing and sunburn: Apply tree maintenance products to protect against winter damage. Painting the trunk white helps reduce temperature fluctuations between day and night.
(2) Treat wounds properly: Large cuts should be smoothed and treated with tree sealant, disinfectants, or protective coatings like varnish, thiophanate ointment, or S-921. For large lesions, bridge grafting is recommended after cleaning.
Third, promptly treat affected areas.
(1) Scrape infected bark: Before spring growth, remove diseased bark and apply a mixture of thiophanate-methyl wettable powder and vegetable oil. Alternatively, use 843 recovery agent solution to prevent recurrence.
(2) Spray tree protectants: Using general tree sprays offers multiple benefits, including sterilization, heat retention, frost protection, and prevention of bark diseases.
