Persimmon post-harvest management technology

Fertilization for persimmon trees should be adjusted based on soil fertility, tree health, canopy size, and fruit yield. For a tree producing around 20 kilograms of fresh fruit, it is recommended to apply either 0.5 kg of fermented peanut bran or 0.75 kg of 15:15:15 compound potassium fertilizer. Fertilizer can be applied directly or spread around the root zone. Winter fertilization, which makes up about 60% of the annual requirement, should be done before the leaves fall. This helps the tree absorb and store nutrients effectively, supporting new growth, flowering, and fruit development in the following season. Each tree can receive 0.75–1.25 kg of commercial decomposed peanut bran or 5 kg of well-rotted livestock manure. The fertilizer should be dug into the soil and covered afterward. Deep cultivation and soil improvement are essential for sweet persimmons, as they have deep roots. A deeper tillage layer encourages more lateral and fibrous roots, improving nutrient absorption. After winter begins, deep plowing and soil improvement should be carried out along with garden cleaning and fertilization. Green manure and organic compost should be rotated annually to maintain soil fertility. In each planting area, 100 tons of mud or fertile soil should be added to the tree platform. If the soil pH is below 6.0, lime should be applied at a rate not exceeding 100 kg per mu per year to improve soil conditions. Pruning is typically done during the dormant period, ideally between the winter solstice and the end of winter. The main goal is to remove dead, weak, or unproductive branches, as well as drooping or overcrowded limbs. This promotes better air circulation and light penetration, which enhances fruit quality and tree health. Weed control is crucial for persimmon orchards. From the time of leaf fall until the next growing season's bud stage, all remaining leaves, dead branches, and diseased parts should be removed from the trees. All cut material should be collected and burned to eliminate overwintering pests and disease sources. This practice helps reduce the risk of infestations and infections in the following season.
