Rotary cultivator use and maintenance technology

Rotary cultivators are essential farming tools that use a rotating blade roller powered by a tractor to break up, loosen, and level the soil. They are capable of cutting through vegetation and mixing it into the entire tillage layer, as well as incorporating fertilizers, pesticides, and other amendments. After operation, the soil becomes finely broken and the surface is smooth, which simplifies subsequent farming tasks. Because of these benefits, rotary cultivators have become widely used in agriculture. Before using a rotary cultivator, proper installation is crucial for safe and efficient performance. For a three-point hitch-mounted rotary cultivator paired with a wheeled tractor, the first step is to disengage the power take-off (PTO) shaft. Remove the PTO cover and install the reverse rotavator when the tractor is in reverse. Then, connect the square shaft universal joint to the rotary cultivator’s drive shaft. Lift the unit and manually rotate the cutter shaft to check for smooth movement. Once confirmed, insert the square sleeve universal joint into the tractor’s PTO shaft and secure it properly. It’s important to ensure that the universal joint’s fork joints and the square shaft sleeve are aligned in the same plane. If misaligned, you may hear unusual noises, experience increased vibration, or risk mechanical damage. After installation, insert the safety bolt into the groove on the spline shaft and secure it with a split pin. When installing a rotary cultivator on a self-propelled tractor, tilt the tractor forward and remove the drawbar. Fasten the rotary cultivator to the gearbox using five stud bolts. Make sure the two alignment pins on the coupling faces are correctly positioned to ensure proper gear engagement. If the gears in the cultivator’s drive box are not aligned properly with those in the tractor’s gearbox, avoid forcing them together. Instead, turn the pulley to position the internal gears at an angle for correct installation. The paper gasket between the gearbox and the cultivator should be 0.45 to 0.55 mm thick. A gasket that is too thick or too thin can affect the gear meshing clearance. When removing the cultivator, cover the gearbox joint with a protective shield to prevent dirt or debris from entering the housing.
