Three feeding methods for raising pigs

In pig farming, there are various feeding methods available, including raw and cooked feeds, as well as dry and wet feeding options. Choosing the right type of feed can significantly impact the health and growth of pigs. Here are three commonly used feeding techniques that farmers often rely on. The first method is known as "clinker dilute feeding," which involves boiling the feed into a porridge-like consistency before giving it to the pigs. This approach has some benefits, such as softening the crude fiber, reducing the volume of feed, and improving the digestibility of roughage. It also helps eliminate harmful bacteria and parasites. However, this method isn't considered very scientific because cooking reduces the nutritional value of the feed. For example, corn, barley, wheat bran, and rice bran lose about 10% of their nutrients when cooked, and many vitamins are destroyed in the process. Additionally, cooking requires fuel and specialized equipment like stoves and pots, increasing production costs. The feed also spoils quickly, requiring frequent preparation, which leads to higher labor costs and lower efficiency. Another popular method is the "raw wet feeding" technique. Many pig experts prefer this because it's simpler and more nutritious compared to the clinker dilute method. Before feeding, the farmer mixes crushed roughage with green feed and water in a ratio of approximately 1:0.8 to 1, then stirs everything thoroughly and feeds it directly to the pigs. This method saves time, labor, and equipment, making it cost-effective. However, it does have some drawbacks. Wet feed cannot be stored for long periods and must be prepared fresh each time. In colder weather, it may even freeze, making it unsuitable for feeding. Some farmers have adopted a hybrid approach by combining the wet and dry feeding methods. This is known as "raw dry feeding." In this system, the crushed feed is mixed in the correct proportions and placed in an automatic feeder, allowing pigs to eat freely throughout the day. A water tank is also provided for free access to drinking water. This method significantly reduces the workload for farmers, who only need to feed once daily and can add some green feed while cleaning the pens. It not only improves work efficiency but also allows pigs to eat at their own pace, leading to better weight gain and overall development. Practical experience has shown that raw wet feeding is more beneficial than clinker dilute feeding, and dry feeding is more efficient than wet feeding in terms of management. Therefore, pig farmers should choose the most scientifically sound and practical feeding method based on their resources and conditions to maximize profitability and animal performance.
